I know it can be quite annoying to see people taking photos of their food, especially in public places. Pero aminin, we all take snaps of our pretty-looking orders once in a while. I know it shouldn't be done EVERY TIME you have food in front of you, but taking snaps of our good-looking dishes won't hurt. There's a thing called food photography anyway. :) And let's face it, we all want to share photos of our well-deserved treat or newly discovered recipe or our little cafe latte.

In every barkada, there is always that annoying friend who takes photos of the food and lets everybody wait. In our group, that would proudly be me. Lol sorry not sorry! I love taking photos of just about anything, and food is no exception. I know some of you do, too.

To save us time (and to save our friends from pasmo), I'm posting a few tips for us to remember. Hopefully, these tips can help you decide which angle is best to use when taking photos of your instagrammable dish.

Master the art of flat lays.

Taking a photo of each of your dish has become quite outdated. These days, the top down or the flat lay shot has vastly become the most popular angle since it shows everything on your table in just a single shot. This angle is perfect if you want to show the details on top of your food. If you have a colorful table scene, a nice plating, some cute latte art, or a flat dish, then this angle is your best bet.

Improve flat lays by using props.

Another reason why it's fun to take snaps on a top-down angle is that you can get creative. By adding your everyday gadgets like cellphone, camera, sunglasses or anything you have lying around the corner, you can instantly tell a story in your photo and make it look more interesting.

Use someone's hands.

During brunch dates, avoid eye-rolls, judgement, and boring your friends while you take a few shots by letting them contribute. Ask them to pour milk on your cereal, drizzle syrup on your pancake, slice the steak, or let them slowly pick up/hold the food as if they are about to eat.

Show layers with the straight-on angle.

When capturing a stack of pancakes, a burger, a slice of cake, it is best to position your camera beside the subject to show its layers and height. Using the flat lay angle will only make your food flat, and will not correctly showcase what it is. You don't want people to think you're eating a bun instead of a burger.

Show both layers and the surface from a 45 degree angle.

When there is both depth/height in your food and some details on top, then the good ol' 45 degree angle shot works best. In these photos, I used this angle to show the puffiness of the egg in my pasta, the layers of the nigiri and maki, and the depth of my katsudon bowl, while still showing the details of their surfaces which is also essential.

Hold your cute little treat up against a good background.

When taking a photo of your ice cream, or cup of coffee, or snack, make it look more appealing by holding it up in front of a good view, or just the surrounding environment. This also tells a little story which is ideal for travel photos.

That's it for now. All these photos are taken by me (see more on my Instagram @innalucero). These are just the angles I personally use. But in order to have clear photos of your food, shoot in soft natural light. You can hop on to my other blog post where I shared 10 Tips on How to Take Good Photos Using Your Smartphone.

We were planning to have dinner with my family and Andy's family, so it was sort of a special occasion. I planned to bake something new that I haven't tried. Then it hit me - what perfect way to celebrate the occasion with cupcakes? Upon realizing, I immediately went to the mall first thing in the morning and bought a cupcake pan. Yay! I was so excited!

It has been months since I had this jar of Nutella with me. Me and my roommates are too busy to consume it. Also, I am too conscious about my weight that I tend to stray away from eating it! Lol. As much as I love having a huge jar of Nutella, I never want it to go to waste. So I decided to make use of it and bake some Chocolate Chip Nutella Cookies

One of the things I like doing on free days is spending the afternoon at a coffee shop and catching up with friends. Today was a perfect time to do that as the weather was gloomy, and it had been days since we went out together with my bestfriend. I have also noticed that cafe's and coffee shops have been sprouting like crazy in the city! There are a number of new restos and cafes waiting to be explored. We decided to try out Instyle Events Cafe.

As we entered, I was honestly surprised. Everything was so instagram-worthy! If you're anything like me, then you'd love how girly and dainty this cafe is! Just look at how cute the chandelier is. I heard it was made by the owner himself! The owner of the cafe is actually a wedding planner so this is also his shop where you can inquire about wedding preparations.

Gabby's Bistro is one of the most popular and finest restaurants that you can find in Dumaguete. When I first heard that Gabby's was opening another branch in our neighborhood, I was so ecstatic! I've always loved their cute and artistic interior. The new Gabby's Bed & Breakfast is merely just a 5-minute walk away from our house. When they opened last summer, me, my sister, and paps decided to try there right away.

There are hundreds of ways to spice up and flavor your pancakes. Pancakes are an all-time favorite breakfast of mine. After learning how to make homemade pancakes at home, I've ditched the premade pancake box mix ever since. Here I will show you different ways to make your pancakes better.

Drop a spoonful of Nutella to the pancake batter and just swirl it in to create these gooey and chocolatey pancakes!

Ever since I started baking, my family has always been requesting me to bake batches of cookies for them to snack on anytime. Cookies are actually great because you can bake them as many as you like and store them in a container. So when you feel like munching on a little treat, you can just grab some quickly.

My family has been a fan of the natural peanut butter (the ones with the natural oils from the peanuts) to spread on our bread. Whenever my mom buys a branded peanut butter spread, it gets stored for a long time because nobody really eats it. We all prefer the natural kind. So I decided to make use of it and baked these peanut butter cookies.

Brownies are probably my most-baked dessert because they are so easy to whip up with just a few ingredients that are usually in our kitchen already. I have been searching for the best easy yet satisfying brownies and have tried and tested recipes from the internet, made a few adjustments to my preference, and finally created my own recipe.

How ironic of me to be making a detox juice drink in the morning but still planning to bake chocolate chip muffins in the afternoon. Healthy vs. unhealthy - my constant battle everyday. Apparently, unhealthy always wins. Hahaha. And so I baked these muffins. Sadly, they were a fail.

I got this recipe from Joy of Baking, and followed the exact ingredients and procedure. I don't know why they didn't rise but I suspect that our old-fashioned vintage oven does not heat up to the temperature set even I already preheated it. Perhaps I need to buy an oven thermometer.

People have their own variations of a classic chocolate chip cookie recipe. Mine, well.. I have yet to come up on my own. As of now, I've been following alot of fantastic food blogs. I got this recipe from this very lovely blog.

These cookies came out really soft and chocolatey. As you can see, I added alot of chocolate chips! And topped them with even more!

Honestly, I was never into the kitchen before. I had no interest in cooking or baking. I always thought that cooking and baking requires alot of expertise and good taste in food. But surprisingly, when I tried to bake for the first time (the real food, not just fried eggs), I eventually became hooked. Right now I seriously can’t stop baking! It all started last December when Andy and I decided to cook dinner for our 5th anniversary and for Christmas Eve (they fall on the same date!). Andy took in charge of the main dishes and told me to make the dessert. At that moment, I became so excited. I searched for recipes and videos on easy desserts. I stumbled on different websites and videos and couldn’t decide which one to choose! I finally decided to bake some brownies. It was really my first time to bake something! And the result was…not that bad! Lol. I overcooked them but they still tasted good. My family actually loved it, but I knew I needed more practice to make it better. But I realized that baking and cooking is really fun and EASY!!! I’ve been trying out recipes since then. Let me show you my experiments :)

The brownies I baked that night!
